Psychotherapy & Counselling

Chris Powell: About me

Often the most effective ways to deal with psychological problems are to improve your relationships and address the underlying causes of problems. I have 30 years experience as a psychotherapist in the NHS and private practice and for 10 years was Head of Psychological therapies at the Tuke Centre in The Retreat, York. I have worked with many different individuals and couples, from many different backgrounds and with many types of difficulties.

I work with individuals, couples and groups. There is more information about my work with groups here.

I work from confidential consulting rooms in central Leeds with parking outside the door.

When you contact me I shall arrange a brief phone call to find out what kind of help you are looking for and to clarify what I can offer. If you want to continue we shall make an appointment for an initial meeting.

At our initial meeting I will help you clarify what it is you are wanting to deal with, and think with you about ways of doing that. If I find that I am not able to offer what you need I shall give you a recommendation for the kinds of help that are likely to suit you, and try to point you in an appropriate direction. If we both decide that we are able to work together we shall agree an initial number of sessions and review your progress as we go along.

I have appointments early morning, in office hours and in the evening.

My fees for April 2023 – March 2024 are:
£110 for an initial meeting of 90 minutes
£73 for ongoing sessions of 50 minutes
Monthly fees of £174 for weekly group therapy
